Helen Shearer’s workshop is set in the beautiful grounds of Glenarm Castle, Co. Antrim.

Inspired by her surroundings, this is where she creates her unique pieces of wall-based porcelain and ceramic jewellery.

About

Working alongside her husband Rory, from a pretty studio set on the Glenarm Demesne. Her pieces are sold in shops and galleries throughout the UK and Ireland.

Projects

Helen makes framed ceramic wall art and porcelain jewellery. Her pieces are the evidence of many years perfecting the use of underglaze and metal oxide on porcelain. Her work is original and unique.

She has worked on projects for both the National Trust and the National Museums NI.

Experiments

I take my inspiration from many places including the natural and organic world. Colour, form and texture, are important parts of my work that are recorded through painted sketches and drawings. These are then transposed into carved templates that are impressed onto a porcelain surface. The fine raised lines left by these impressions delineate the images and create areas where the underglaze and metal oxide can pool and give depth to the colour.
